About the Course
In Composing Comics, budding comic artists create original comics based on the term’s theme. This course is designed for students who wish to further develop what they’ve learned from Comics Draw-Along (or who already have a basic understanding of comics), who are confident in their drawing skills and wish to develop their storytelling abilities. We’ll be exploring the theme of “Tales from The Sea” (think of pirates, mermaids, anything ocean themed), and the kinds of characters that inhabit them. We’ll also be learning how to incorporate watercolour and colour pencil into our comics as we explore wet and dry techniques!
Additionally, in this 8 session term course, students will learn how to
- Transform their ideas into structured stories and understand the elements of a compelling narrative
- Use story charts to visually plan their comics.
- Develop underdrawing, sketching, and painting techniques
By the end of the term, each student will receive a printed copy their own original comic, along with a folder showcasing their creative process.
Class sizes are limited to a maximum of 12 students to ensure that each student receives the attention, feedback, and guidance necessary to succeed in this incredible creative endeavour.
Supplies including art materials, folders, and paper, are provided in class. Students are encouraged to bring a bottle of water and a nut free snack.
